DAYTON, OH. - While everyone in Ohio is reveling over the Ohio State Buckeyes football triumph over their rivals from the state to their north, anticipation for the second annual "Buckeyes vs. Hoosiers Driver's Challenge" on December 10 at Hollywood Dayton Raceway is steadily building. The Hoosiers team will be comprised of the five leading dash winners at Hoosier Park during their recently-completed 2016 season. That would include Captain Trace Tetrick, the winningest driver in Hoosier Park history, and teammates Sam Widger, Ricky Macomber, Tyler Smith and Andy Shetler (Shetler replaces John DeLong, who had a previous out-of-town engagement). The Buckeyes squad will include the five leaders in the current meet dash derby after the Saturday, December 3 program. At this writing, that would include Captain Josh Sutton, Kayne Kauffman, Jeremy Smith and Dan Noble. Peter Wrenn currently has a one win edge over Chris Page for the final spot. The contest will include six races on the Saturday night card with equal post positions assigned to each driver from both squads and the horses drawn randomly into those assigned drivers. Points will be earned in accordance with the official order of finish on a 30-24-18-14-11-9-7-5-3-1 basis. The team that accumulates the most points will be declared the winner. The Challenge went down to the sixth and final race in its inaugural competition in 2015 and a similar spirited finish is expected the second time around. The real winners, though, will be underprivileged children in Dayton and a lady named Crystal Wilson, as the centerpiece of the Buckeyes vs. Hoosiers Challenge is the holiday spirit of giving. Hollywood Dayton Raceway is encouraging all horsemen and patrons to donate a new toy to the Dayton Firefighters Local 136 campaign to assure that every child in its Dayton precinct has a new toy at Christmas. The Local 136 Christmas Toy Drive has been chaired by paramedic Crystal Wilson in recent years, a role she cannot fulfill this year due to an unfortunate fall from a ladder several months ago which has left her paralyzed from the waist down. During the first two years of harness racing at Hollywood Dayton, Crystal also served as an EMT in the required ambulance stationed trackside during all live performances. Hollywood Dayton Raceway and the Ohio Harness Horsemens Association puts up $2500 in prize money for the Buckeyes vs. Hoosiers Challenge. In Year One, the drivers from both squads voted unanimously to donate the entire prize pool to the Firefighter's Toy Drive. This year, they have agreed to promote toy donations from owners, drivers, trainers as well as patrons to the toy drive, and devote the entire prize money pool to Crystal Wilson, who was so very helpful and concerned over their safety over so many nights. "It's our turn to repay Crystal with this donation to help with her rehabilitation costs," said OHHA Track Rep Brett Merkle-a sentiment echoed by all the members of both teams. Gregg Keidel

WASHINGTON, PA, Nov. 29, 2016 -- Barn Girl made it two straight Tuesday at The Meadows when she quarter-poled to the lead and jogged off to a comfortable harness racing victory in the $18,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Trot. Barn Girl was away second when Aaron Merriman sent her after the leader, Mistress Valentine. The 4-year-old daughter of Cash Hall-Turquoise Sweetie never let Mistress Valentine get close, defeating her by 2 lengths in 1:54.1. Elin shot the Lightning Lane for show. Bill Bercury trains Barn Girl, who now boasts $334,296 in career earnings, for Renee Bercury. Mike Wilder continued his torrid streak, collecting four more wins to give him 19 over the last four programs. Jim Pantaleano enjoyed a triple on the 13-race card. The Meadows Racetrack & Casino

Great music and fun are traditions of the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame's annual Holiday Concert. Celebrating its 42nd year, this community event kicks off the festive season. Although much has changed in the world since that first concert in 1974, the charm of sleigh bells and the warmth of gathered neighbors continue to "make the season bright." Mark your calendar for Thursday, December 8 th at 7:00 p.m. and don't miss out. Performing again this year in the Museum's William R. Haughton Memorial Hall is the Evergreen Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International based in Poughkeepsie. After a 1st place performance in regional competition this year, Evergreen will be taking the stage in Las Vegas during the 2017 Sweet Adelines International competition. Singing in four-part harmony, this award-winning a cappella group will entertain listeners with a selection of holiday favorites. Goshen High School's Varsity Choir and Jazz Voices Ensemble will return for their 16th appearance on this special occasion. The evening will end with the concert's traditional audience participation number, "The Twelve Days of Christmas." Arrive early to enjoy our holiday tree trimmed with horsey ornaments, tour the Museum with its festive halls and stalls, and check out the new exhibits that have been installed since last year's concert. Don't forget to visit the Museum's Winner's Circle Gift Shop for a little holiday shopping too. Concert goers and shoppers will enjoy a 10% discount prior to the show. Sponsors for this annual event are Robert Boni of Northwood Bloodstock in memory of John A. Cashman, Jr., and Edie Haughney of Amerprise Financial Services, providing a holiday dessert table for the enjoyment of all. Concert admission is $3.00 per person, and is waived for Museum members. Non-members who bring a new unwrapped toy for the Marines' "Toys for Tots" program receive a $1.00 admission discount. As seating is limited we recommend making reservations as soon as possible. The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program distributes toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. If you are unable to attend the concert, we invite you to drop off a new unwrapped toy in the Museum's main lobby from now until Tuesday, December 13 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily. Help make a child happy this holiday season! If you have not booked your holiday party, there are a few dates still available. Call Gigi Ryan for details about this unique setting for all your special occasions at 845-294-6330. The Museum, which is supported in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, as well as the United States Trotting Association, is currently offering free admission for walk-in visitors and $4.00/person for group docent-guided tours. For information on all the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame special events, education programs or gift shop services, please call (845) 294-6330 or visit our website at www.harnessmuseum.. The Museum is open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. www.harnessmuseum.com

Monticello, NY - "The response has been overwhelming," noted banquet chair and National Vice President Shawn Wiles.   It promises to be a packed house when the Monticello - Goshen Chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association holds its 58th annual awards banquet at the Fountains at Wallkill Golf Club, 40 Sands Rd, Middletown, NY on Sunday, December 4, 2016.   Chapter secretary Janet Terhune agreed. "Tickets have been selling extremely well, due in large part to the exemplary slate of honorees...headed by lifetime achievement award winner Bob Boni."   In addition to Boni, the Monticello-Goshen chapter will also honor Keith Hamilton (Excelsior Award); Kenneth Jacobs (John Gilmour Good Guy Award); Dave Little (Phil Pines Award); Roger Dowd (Amy Bull Crist Distinguished Service Award); Robert Krivelin (Amateur Driver); Justin Huckabone (Rising Star); and Denise DeSimone (Award of Appreciation).   Local horsemen and women are also feted as twenty equine athletes from Monticello Raceway are being recognized for divisional honors, which has also helped "put fannies in seats" as our mentor John Manzi has been known to exclaim.   The Monticello Raceway 2016 Horse of the Year is Scott Woogen's Warrawee Preferred 1:55, 1:56.4h--'16 ($122,033). Trained by Gary Messenger, the 5-year-old trotter has 13 wins in 40 starts and nearly $50,000 on the season.   In addition to the horse awards, Adam Friedland has been named Owner of the Year and Jessie Ray is being honored for Caretaker of the Year.   A few tickets are still available for the fun-filled event which begins at 5:30 pm with a full-hour open bar. At 6:45 pm seating begins for a full course dinner and awards presentations.   The chapter always has several tables piled high with door prizes, with the intent that "no one leaves empty handed." This year is no exception.   Tickets for the gala event are just $65 each can be reserved by contacting Shawn Wiles at (845) 794-4100 extension 458 or Email: [email protected] or Chris Tully at (845) 807-7538 or Email: [email protected].   Chris Tully
